Practice & Process
Materiality and craftsmanship are central to Studio Piet Boon’s practice. Emphasis is given to tactility and to high-quality natural materials used in their purest forms that will grow more beautiful with the passage of time. Embracing texture and patina in this way, Studio Piet Boon’s material palettes awaken the senses and evoke a welcome sense of ‘home’.

Selected Works

The Jane
The concept for this Michelin-star restaurant in Antwerp was rooted in authenticity, functionality and materials selected to age with grace. Studio Piet Boon approached the interior design of the former chapel with respect and sensitivity, emphasising restoration over transformation to honour its history. The original ceiling and altar were retained, while a grand, bespoke chandelier—made with 150 lights spanning 12 metres—adds richness to the restraint. Materials and tones were contemporary and understated, culminating in a harmonious space where history and modernity coexist.

Canal House
This 5-storey historic residence sits beside a charming Amsterdam canal. Studio Piet Boon sought to embrace the building’s unusual form and history—working with its high ceilings, ornamental details, stained-glass windows and vast beams. Modern comforts of home are added to original characteristics, spaces are generously proportioned and light-filled, and the colour palette is serene. The result is a truly unique family residence that embraces its past, its daily present and is designed to last.

Secret Sanctuary
This enchanting home is hidden within a leafy cul-de-sac in the city of Amsterdam. It serves as a retreat for a busy creative director, and as a resting place for her beautiful art collection. Studio Piet Boon created a total work of design with the Secret Sanctuary. Their vision was to embrace the eccentric, converted 20th century industrial building whilst also achieving elegance. Bespoke details are seen throughout, a sublime curation of materials engages all the senses, seasonal light flows through the space, and the floorplan offers privacy high up in the tree-canopies.
